On Wednesday 9th December, Lealands Year 10 and 11 catering students, served up a three course Christmas lunch to 86 members of the Sundon Park Centre Trust.  The students prepared, cooked and served the meal to their guests to gain experience in what it would be like to work in a real life restaurant.

Planning for the event started many weeks in advance with students and their teachers designing and preparing the menus, practising the meals and learning catering skills so that everything would be perfect on the day.

Students decided to serve a starter of either Florida cocktail or winter vegetable soup. For the main course the guests had gammon and turkey served with all the trimmings including pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables.  For dessert there was either homemade cheesecake or Christmas pudding. Following the meal there was tea and coffee.

Whilst the finishing touches were being made to the meal preparations, the guests were led into the Main Hall to enjoy performances by Lealands’ choir.

Following the entertainment, guests seated themselves in the community room ready for their meals.  The students took their orders and served up their meals efficiently, making sure all of their guests were happy.

Once all the guests had finished eating, the event was concluded with a raffle and a big round of applause for all the efforts of the staff and students involved.  Miss Selby, the teacher in charge of proceedings said “The event today was a massive success. The community enjoyed themselves very much and always say that 'Lealands do the best Christmas lunch!' The students who helped organised this and took part really excelled themselves. To cater for that many people is extremely challenging but they worked really hard and as a team. I am extremely proud of them for what they have achieved”.
