MP Sarah Owen Joins Year 9 Digital Citizenship Workshop

In September, a digital citizenship workshop was presented to a selection of Year 9 students. 'Be Internet Citizens' is a free education programme teaching critical media literacy skills and behaviours. It builds on Youtube's "Hit Pause" campaign.
The workshop focused on aiding students to spot mis- and disinformation by checking more than one source of information, checking the original source and ensuring that they are not emotionally manipulated by the content.
The workshop led to students completing an activity to check their skills, resulting in poems, raps and online adverts to promote these skills.
Sarah Owen, our local MP, attended to speak to the students herself about the importance of the skills discussed and how young people can contact her or other political leaders regarding any issues on these matters.
