Lealands Remembers
At 11am on Friday 9th November, students and staff gathered together around the school’s memorial garden in an act of remembrance; commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War.
A two minutes silence was led into by maths teacher, Mr Patterson, playing ‘The Last Post and Reveille’. Over 1000 students and staff respectfully bowed their heads to remember those who have given their lives during conflict.
Following the silence, Head Girl, Nicole and Head Boy Nitin, recited the poem ‘The Crosses’, and Headteacher, Mr Burridge, laid a poppy wreath next to the Lealands memorial tree. A representative from each tutor group stepped forward and planted poppies and crosses alongside the wreath. Students were given access to the memorial garden during break time to lay their own poppies if they wished to do so privately.
