Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) houses our school library, which contains approximately 9,000 books ranging from fiction to non-fiction. It has been designed as a welcoming and relaxing space where students can read, study, or enjoy quiet time during break and lunchtime.

To support this environment, the LRC also has comfortable seating such as bean bags, and students can also use chess sets during break and lunch.

The LRC is also home to our careers resources and information, and provides a range of teaching and learning materials for staff.

An Extended Learning Club runs in the LRC after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3.00pm to 4.00pm, supported by the Student Support Team to help all year groups with their extended learning.
All students enrolling at Lealands automatically become members of the LRC. Students may borrow up to three library books for a period of three weeks. If books are lost or damaged, a replacement cost may be charged.
All Year 7 students receive an induction during their first few weeks at school to help them understand how the LRC works and how they can make the most of its resources.

To encourage and celebrate reading, we host Literacy Week each year. Parents and carers are kept informed about how they can support their child in celebrating reading during this time. During Literacy Week we run a book fair, allowing students to purchase books at a reduced price. World Book Day vouchers are also issued to every student during this week.

We also run the Reader Leader Project in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire, where selected Year 10 reading mentors are trained to read with and support our new Year 7 students, helping to promote positive reading habits.

The LRC is supported by an LRC Coordinator, who helps students find information and make use of the resources available. Students can also access our Eclipse computerised catalogue, which allows them to browse the library catalogue, reserve books, and explore reading materials both in school and at home.

Suggested Key Stage 3 Reading List

Here is a suggested "challenge yourself" reading list for KS3 students. Please identify yourself as either a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award reader. Please note that reading is about enjoying a book of your taste! This list is to be used as a guide if you'd like to challenge yourself, so please don't feel limited or that you can't read a book that's not on your list.
