Religion and Society

Why choose this subject? 

This is a compulsory, non-examined course covering the statutory curriculum of Religious Studies, Citizenship and PSHE. The purpose of Religion and Society within your curriculum is to continue to promote your spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and prepare you for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life with the knowledge, skills and understanding you need to play a full, healthy and active part in society. Over the two years, we aim to foster your keen awareness and understanding in such issues as democracy, the law, international affairs and the battle to uphold human rights.  We want to equip you with the skills and knowledge to explore political and social issues critically, to weigh evidence, debate and make reasoned arguments.

  • Drug and Alcohol Education
  • Sex and Relationship Education
  • Careers – Soft Skills for employment
  • A history of migration
  • Dealing with stress
  • Managing online behaviours
  • Local democracy
  • Money and Finance

In Year 11:

  • Preparation for Year 11 – Including organizational skills, study tips and mental wellbeing
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Stress management
  • Careers - CVs and Personal Statements
  • Further and Higher Education application process
  • Maintaining positive mental health into adulthood

This course helps you to develop the soft and hard skills to enter the employment market at any level successfully.
