Year 7 Transition

Starting a new school can be daunting, as well as exciting, and we have a well-established programme of tasters and visits, including a summer holiday programme to ensure that Year 7 students settle into Lealands as well as they can.

Our transition coordinator works closely with primary schools and parents/carers to ensure a successful transfer to secondary school. Some ability setting takes place in core subjects as well as highly successful intervention, support and catch-up for students requiring this.

For much of the time, Year 7 are taught in their tutor groups allowing them to develop good working relationships with their peers.

All Year 7 students have a tutor who is responsible for their academic progress, welfare and pastoral support. Students follow an engaging character and culture development programme as well as attending year group assemblies. It is through these that our students learn how to live the values that we promote.
